Dubai, Oct 1 (PTI) The UAE will impose a life ban on the employment of those found to be using fake certificates in order to secure jobs in the country, its ministry of labour has said. The contract would stand cancelled if the employee's documents are found to be forged," The Khaleej Times quoted a source in the ministry as saying.

Earlier this month, Arabic media reports said that a total of 68 Emiratis are among 10,000 people blacklisted by the US Department of Justice for buying fake high school and college degrees from a diploma institute in Washington.

"To provide fake documents is a misdemeanour which could lead to penalties, including fines ranging between Dh500 (USD 136) to Dh20,000 (USD 5,446) and/or prison terms ranging from 24 hours to three years," a legal advisor told the newspaper adding that the company can also file a compensation suit against the employee who causes damage to the firm.

According to the newspaper, Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, the Deputy Chief of the Federal National Council (FNC), has affirmed that the council will discuss new mechanisms for stronger streamlining of the labour market to deal with those who enter the professions with fake certificates. PTI
