Movie: Downfall

Horrifying but well worth seeing--lights out in the Fuehrerbunker. The actor playing that Austrian is remarkable and the one playing Magda Goebbels is terrifying. "Downfall" has all the blood and gore those who like such things will want (I don't), the atmospherics are tremendous--you can almost smell the stale underground air, and the portrayal of varying rates of psychological disintegration is gripping.
Doing good, doing well, raising hope and raising hell. Janko Shave.

Yet it is the absolute banality of evil that grips you. Here you have full circle. An utterly undistinguished charmless group of social misfits with attitude was at last meeting their end having for some extraordinary reason succeded in taking control of a powerful nation and igniting most of the world in an appalling conflict.
