The new Khalidi (AUB) version and the recent abdul-Haleem version, too.

I was surprised by the strength of Sardar's denunciation of the Dawood translation. Apart from the quirky re-ordering of the suras (chapters) in some of the published versions of N.J. Dawood's translation (including the first Qur'an I read), I found it to be lucid as well as reputedly accurate. It has remained my favorite translation, certainly more than the stilted Pickthall version, or even than the beautiful (but somewhat interpretive) Abdullah Yusuf Ali translation.
