Some of them are probably on the list, but that's not the answer.

A list of diploma mills, each of whom purport to be from the UK?

Close.

Postby g-gollin » Wed Feb 03, 2010 8:40 pm

A list of diploma mills, many (most?) in the UK.

The real question is: "Who assembled, and currently uses, this list?"

Well, I know the answer, so I won't join the game. But I can add that if its source were known, it would be quite an important list.

I'm interested in the mystery. I don't have a good idea though. To try to further the mystery to a solution I'll ask a question though. Does it perchance have anything to do with use of bogus academic credentials investigation in the federal civil service?

It isn't made public due to fear of commitment of resources in case of litigation.

One interesting thing about the list is that there are known almost universally agreed upon diploma mills missing from the list like Columbia State University.

Perhaps the list is diploma mills pretending to be in the UK. It could be used by the UK Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills or something like that?

I am aware that Trans-Atlantic College is a recognized institution in Great Britain. Why are they listed? Thanks.

See the official lists of "recognised" and "listed" UK institutions here: http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/recognisedukdegrees/. I do not see Trans-Atlantic College on either list. By whom is it recognized?

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills is no more. It disappeared in the last UK Government re-organisation last year and became part of the ever-expanding Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, headed by our unelected First Secretary of State.

Yes - As Harley Said, Transatlantic IS recognized!

Postby johann » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:07 pm

Oh - looky! Transatlantic College is right here (Page 106 -alpha order).http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/siteco ... seducation

That was easy! Thanks, Harley, for enlightening us on this particular college. Thanks, Malcolm Jenner, for referencing this list in the "Stoopid Diploma Mills" thread, thereby letting us know that International College of Excellence wasn't the "brown and smelly thing" Dr. Gollin thought it was.

It should NOT usually be difficult to distinguish a dog-turd from an authorized school.
