SAQA documents

Postby DrJ » Fri May 27, 2011 2:44 am

I need direction in filling out the SAQA evaluation for foreign qualifications. Not exactly clear on how to fill it out and pay. Enrolling in PhD in theology from Auckland Park in South Africa.

Are there specific questions you're battling with?
It might be easier to go through here: Foreign Qualifications Evaluation and Advisory Service

In that case maybe I can help. Being a South African, I am used to how English sometimes becomes garbled in bureaucratic speak by writers for whom it is, at best ,a second language.

Thank you. I will definitely ask for clarification as I fill it out.

Lukeness,

I'm filling out the SAQA app. I think I'm getting it. I assume, under section one where they ask for qualifications earned in...they want the country (USA) then MY address? Again, I assume I need to send all my transcripts with the application and not expect them to request from my previous schools.?

Exactly. They want the country where you earned your qualifications and then your postal and physical addresses with postal codes (zip code) for each. Im assuming that we're both looking at the same version of the document. What I'm looking at is here: http://www.tri-southafrica.com/pdf/eq_form.pdf

Yeah, same document. Thank you. I wonder if my drivers license will work instead of my passport? If not I'm waiting 4-6 weeks to turn in my SAQA. Enrollment is do Oct 31st.

Try it, they are used as a form of ID here quite a lot.

If my license doesn't work, will I be starting the app process all over?

They will probably hold your application pending the receipt of your passport.
I'm not sure what other forms of identification are standard in the US (In SA we have an ID book as well as a passport) is there anything else that might be suitable?
Sometimes a letter from your relevant passport issuing department confirming that you have applied and an affidavit stamped by the local police/court will suffice in the understanding that you will send through a certified copy of the passport when you get it.

I used my birth certificate when I applied to Pretoria. I explained that I did not have a passport at the time.

Well, looks like I will actually be mailing in tomorrow. Made my wire transfer today, I opted to pay for the quick processing and the forwarding of the results to Auckland Park. Hopefully I will be able to start the PhD in early fall.
