No surprise, but the diploma says "Limasool," whereas the correct English spelling is Limassol.

Hmph - bunch of asools - or is that assols? :(

BTW - DI has a ten-year-old thread on this "school," including a posting (by a guest) with the same interesting account as Titus gave - minus the picture. Another poster who lived in Denmark detailed a personal visit to the Danish "office" of NIU - a rented, pretty much "virtual" space - IIRC, it was in a Regus centre.

Back then, a fella named Jay Wise was supposed to be the presiding genius behind NIU and also a very similar-looking website for American College of Metaphysics and Theology, or some such... Looking closely, I believe the NIU diploma is signed (as president) by "Dr. J. Wise." This guy ring any bells with the long-term gurus, here? :?:

Since when does anyone sign as "Dr. So-and-so"? They always sign "So-and-so, Ph.D." or whatever.

That's if the doctorate is legit, Nosborne. Hacks, frauds and mill-meisters are usually ignorant of academic protocol. Hell, most can't even spell it! :)

There is an old thread here on DD that deals with a person with nine doctorates, five of them purchased from NIU over a two-year period.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4120&p=34095&hilit=nine+doctorates#p34095

It contains some apt remarks by "Poimen" on what a busy fella Jay Wise must be, in his various roles:

As president, dissertation committee, registrar, and finance department secretary, Dr. Wise must have have really been busy those two years...................

Yes, indeed he did, Jimmy. I think I might have mentioned the connection earlier in the thread -- third post, I believe. I ran into the same phony-degree-holder article you cited, while seeing what sort of story I could develop on this defunct-and-debunked school, ACMT. It was in Minneapolis, IIRC.

As it turned out, I just couldn't cobble together enough info on the "school" to make an interesting yarn for the board...so I didn't go any further with it. Thanks for mentioning it, though. I wonder if "Dr." WIse is still pulling the strings of NIU, or what else he might be doing today.

Johann

BTW - there is a Facebook Group composed of around 27 "grads" of Wise's ACMT!

Sorry, Johann, didn't see that post. Been struggling lately with new glasses and the biofocal is not functioning as it should.

I'm sorry they give you trouble, Jimmy. I've been extremely lucky, far beyond what I deserve, in all health matters. I'll be 70 on Thursday and I just renewed my driver's licence. This is the first time I've had to have the "wears glasses" endorsement on my licence. I've made the odd joke about "my bifocals" etc. in the past but that's all they were - jokes. I've used reading glasses for around 25 years but until recently, nothing else.

As I've often said, I'm not a religious person, but I do thank my Maker daily for my health.
