Checking student qualifications

22 October 2012

An online service has been launched to help employers check graduates’ qualifications and recognised degree-awarding bodies.

The Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD) can be used to check that a UK higher education provider existed and was approved by the UK Government at any given date going back to 1990. Every UK university and college is listed in the database to provide a check on degree awarding status.

In response to a query, HEDD provides contact details to direct the user to the appropriate university or college records office.

The service is also particularly useful for employers and postgraduate course providers who want to verify degree results, and can be used by graduates to request transcripts and replacement certificates.

Welcome to the UK's official online degree verification service.
HEDD is a secure online verification service allowing you to check that a UK university or college is or has been recognised as a degree-awarding body by the UK Government.
It allows you to verify the degree qualifications of graduates from UK universities and colleges from a single online portal.

I entered the following college to test the system:

Warnborough College

Result

Warnborough College This is not and has never been a valid UK degree awarding body
Burnell College This is not and has never been a valid UK degree awarding body
The Gemini College This is not and has never been a valid UK degree awarding body

There is also another important database in UK. The other one is professional and vocational qualifications awarded by accreditation and
certification provides such as City and Guilds. Some of the awards can be higher vocational qualifications that are equivalent to University degrees.
For example level 6 diploma can be equivalent to US Bachelors degree.

I think we get good coverage between the two web sites.

For example City and Guilds GCGI Diploma level 6 -
In addition to UK Royal Charter accreditation/recognition
UK Government OFQUAL Accreditation: GCGI

Thanks, Yes there are sites that point link to the above site.
Some others are not reliable, this is why the definitive one was created.
