MS or MBA with 3 years Indian Degree

Postby usa.student.masters » Sun Jan 08, 2012 4:57 pm

My sister has completed her Bachelor's in Computers from India.
We got her educational transcripts evaluated by WES in which they listed her Indian degree as equivalent to a US 3-year undergraduate study.

She is interested in doing an MS or MBA from a US university.
Most of the universities that I know require a course equivalent to US 4-year undergraduate study.
Does anyone know any good universities that accept 3 years for their MBA or masters program?

Can she transfer all of her credits to any Bachelor's program. She is ready to spean money and upto 6 months college study online as she is working.

Well, my employer, Virginia International University has a lot of students from India and has a "pre-MBA" program for people in your sister's situation. Such a student essentially take levelling courses for a year, making up any deficiencies along the way. Let me know if you'd like to know more.

The fact that she has 12 years work experience changes things, but I'm pretty sure she still needs to finish her undergraduate studies in order to pursue an MBA. Several colleges in Boston offer single-course credit to help her finish her degree.

I know it's a bit late, but might be useful for others.
WES recognizes 3-year Indian bachelor's degrees as eq to a US bachelor's degree under certain circumstances. See here:

Also, UMASS at Lowell offers a 2nd Bachelor's in IT

Another degree completion option from Oregon State:

I'm not there anymore, and I don't remember if they have a theoretical minimum, but they don't have a competitive applicantion process and they're very happy to sign up new students.

I had only 58% marks (overall) in my bachelor's degree in Engineering from India. WES evaluation gave me a GPA of 2.85. Another evaluation agency (also a member of NACES) gave me a GPA of 3.0.

Most US universities require an educational evaluation for foreign degrees. Evaluation agencies knows the equivalencies. So, choose your US university, foind out what agency they prefer, and get an evaluation from them.
